What's in a name? - ¿Que tiene un nombre?

What’s in a name indeed!  I set my first challenge when I decided that in being product of two different cultures, I should write my blog in two languages – English and Spanish.  My next task was to find a name for my blog that would incorporate the two languages and still make sense, so I was happy when I decided on the title Mi Vida My Life.  Unfortunately, it turned out my original idea wasn’t so original after all.  Not only was the name already taken by another Blogger user, but in researching the name I also discovered that the first entry in Google for Mi Vida My Life is a music album by Puerto Rican reggaeton duo Wisin & Yandel.  More Goggling revealed that reggaeton  is a form of reggae/Latin/rap music genre.  After unsuccessfully playing around with other options, I started looking at the possibility of registering my own domain which would give me more scope and freedom to choose the url, whilst retaining my title which I didn’t want to change.  Being a Chilean married to an Australian of Dutch heritage gave me an array of choices.  I could register my domain as Ana Terwindt, my married name (no link to my roots), or Ana Salamanca Carreňo, my maiden name (too long), or something token such as Chica Latina or Aussie Sheila (too clichéd).  After some deliberation, I decided on Anita Ruth, my childhood name, which perfectly encapsulates what I’ll be trying to achieve through these pages.

¿Qué tiene un nombre? Fue un gran desafío cuando me propuse a escribir mi blog en dos idiomas - inglés y español. Una de mis primeras tareas fue el elejir un nombre donde se incorporarían los dos idiomas en un titulo con sentido común en ambas lenguas.  Desde el principo me gustó el titulo Mi Vida My Life, aunque no resultó muy original.  Descubrí que el nombre ya estaba utilizado por otro usuario en Blogger y también que Mi Vida My Life es un álbum de Wisin & Yandel, un dúo puertorriqueño de reggaetón.  Después de ver varias otras opciones sin buenos resultados, me puse a investigar la posibilidad de registrar un dominio personal, ya que esto me daría más libertad para elegir un nombre propio para el url y asi mismo mantener mi título, el cual que no quería cambiar. Siendo una chilena casada con un australiano de herencia holandesa me dio una serie de opciones. Pensé que podria registrar mi dominio como Ana Terwindt, con mi apellido de casada (sin enlace a mis raíces), o Ana Salamanca Carreño, mi apellido de soltera (demasiado largo), o quizás algo como Chica Latina o Aussie Sheila (demasiado común).  Al final me decidí registrar el url bajo Anita Ruth, el nombre de mi infancia, lo cual lo encontré completamente apto para lo que estoy tratando de conseguir a través de estas páginas.
